Within the Department of Neuroimmunology of Dr. I. Huitinga at the NIN a position is available for a Post-doctoral fellow in Multiple Sclerosis (m/f) 38 hours per week

The aim of the project is to investigate a unique collection of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions of more than 175 brain donors of the Netherlands Brain Bank (NBB). Characterization of these lesions should reveal distribution, stage and type of both white and grey matter lesions throughout the brain and spinal cord in a large cohort of clinically well documented MS patients. Staging and characterization will concern different aspects of MS neuropathology (de- and re-myelination, microglia activation, T- and B-cell infiltration, axonal and neuronal alterations, oligodendrocyte loss, etc.). This characterization will facilitate focused dissemination to MS researchers world-wide by the NBB and would therefore boost MS research world-wide.  In addition, research questions concerning the etiology of different types of MS pathologies can be addressed using cellular and molecular techniques such as gene or protein expression in subpial grey matter or remyelinating MS lesions. The candidate will be motivated to formulate research proposals on research questions that arise from the project.
